Yukon & Northwest Territories
The 2016 Arctic Adventure Drive was undertaken to see how far North we could drive in the dead of winter in a small two-passenger vehicle. This trip took us through British Columbia, Yukon, and Northwest Territories to the beginning of the Dempster Highway and the Tuktoyaktuk Winter Road.
In all we traveled 6,400 miles in 10 days through four Canadian provinces. The Dempster Highway begins about 25 miles east of Dawson City, Yukon and extends 457 miles north and east to the town of Inuvik, NT.
The only fuel along the route can be found in Dawson City, Eagle, and Inuvik. At the terminus begins the Tuktoyaktuk Winter Road — an ice road over the frozen Mackenzie River delta and Arctic Ocean.
